I am currently a postdoctoral scholar in Ka moamoa lab at Georgia Tech with my lovely Josiah Hester working on sustainable computational materials.

I will be joining the University of Notre Dame (ND) Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) as a tenure-track assistant professor starting in June 2025. I will be leading Internet of Material (IoM) Lab to build sustainable but resilient interactive devices.

I am also recruiting students (2-3 PhD, 1 Postdoc) for the 2025 admission cycle, as well as summer research interns with background from ECE, CS, ME, Design. If you are interested in topics of sustainability, printed electronics, fabrication, energy harvesting, embedded systems, neuromorphic computing, life cycle assessment (LCA).

08/05/2023 Two collaboration papers are accepted to IJCCI and IASDR, one workshop paper is accepted to UIST.
07/09/2023 Attended HotCarbon 2023 in Boston and presented our paper on building transient computing systems.
06/21/23 Functional Destruction is winner for Sustainability category in 2023 Core77 Design Award.
06/21/23 SwellSense got honorable mention for both the Emerging Technologies and Interaction categories in 2023 Core77 Design Award.
04/25/23 and 04/24/23 Unfortunately can not attend CHI 2023 in-person, but I will present Functional Destruction virtually and Zhihan Zhang will help me present SwellSense in-person.
04/18/23 Functional Destruction has won the Honorable Mention for CHI 2023.
04/08/23 One paper led by Jiachen is conditionally accepted to CSCW with minor revision.
04/05/ 23 One paper collaborated with Jungwook about democratizing wind energy harvester is published to IMWUT.
04/03/23 I passed my PhD thesis proposal centered around “Sustainable Physical Intelligence”.
09/28/22 Attending UIST 2022 in bend, OR to present my doctoral symposium paper on Environmental Physical Intelligence.
09/12/22 Hyunjoo will bring PITAS project to Prototypes for Humanity 2022 in Dubai.
09/08/22 Duco & PITAS are named as a finalist and an honorable mention respectively in the Students category in Fast Company’s 2022 Innovation by Design Awards.
